With Square POS you can optionally track inventory, but turning tracking on and off in bulk is easier said than done.
To turn off inventory tracking for a single item from the Square Dashboard, navigate to the Item Library, select the item you want to update, and scroll down to the Variations section. Click the link to Manage Stock and toggle the switch to turn Tracking on or off.
…but there's no option to manage this setting with the Bulk Edit option in the Item Library, so if you've got a large catalogue to amend, you're either changing them one-by-one or using the Export & Import Library function.
To export your Item Library, click the Actions button and Export Library to download as a CSV so you can edit the inventory setting in bulk and re-import the items.
…but, once again, things aren't so straightforward as there is no obvious tracking setting available in the CSV columns.
The solution to the problem is, counterintuitively, to place an N in the column for New Quantity at [Your Location] which, it turns out, turns off inventory tracking in bulk.
Import your CSV back into Square, overwriting the items, and your tracking settings will be updated. ✅
